It’s TV talent show time again! However, why do magicians have a hard time impressing the judges on Britain’s Got Talent?
There’s a few reasons but I’ll concentrate on the main one. The performer has 90 seconds to impress the judges in their audition. A singer can impress the moment they open their mouth; musicians, as soon as they start to play; dancers, as soon as they move. While some magic can impress straight away (a production of an object is pretty immediate), most needs some sort of set up.
If a magician wants to borrow a ring, or money or needs a card chosen, this all takes time. Then it needs to be marked in some way or checked for details so everyone knows it is the one that will be revealed at the end of the trick. Even if an illusionist is performing an illusion, the prop needs to be introduced and explained. Then there is the set up to the magic trick where something has to happen to the object before the magical conclusion. For an illusion, it could be that the magician or assistant has to be locked into place or positioned in or on the illusion prop.
Did I mention there’s only 90 seconds to impress the judges? That’s no time at all.
This extends to your event. If there are so many people at your event that I only have a very short amount of time with each group, there is no chance to make a huge impact.
