You already know your wedding day is one of the most special days of your life.  Friends, family and work colleagues all gather together to be a part of it. You may want entertainment for everyone and think, “ I want to hire a magician for my wedding.”

Everything adds to the enjoyment and thrill of your big day. Wedding magicians should do that too. But how? Here are some questions you may have:

The obvious question to ask! The obvious answer is to entertain your wedding guests… but it is more than that. Family, friends and work colleagues are invited. These groups of people won’t necessarily know each other. Experienced wedding magicians know how to handle this. I create an enjoyable atmosphere and give a shared experience to people. Does it really matter which wedding magician I hire for my big day?

OH YES! I’m pretty sure you will want everything to be perfect. Every aspect of your wedding day needs to add value to it. And it all needs to come together to make a memorable day for you. Some magicians work in t-shirts regardless of the event; some have the lingering smell of cigarettes and some are very skilful but lack social skills away from doing the tricks. Check what type of person your potential wedding magician is via their website, videos and a phone call. (As for me, I always dress appropriately to the event, I’ve never smoked and I don’t drink alcohol.)

Remember! The most important thing to appreciate when looking to hire a wedding magician is the one thing that makes them different to every other element at your wedding: The wedding magician you choose will be in direct social contact with your friends, family and business colleagues.

 

How much does a wedding magician cost?

I often get enquiries with “How much do you charge and are you free on this date?”

While it is important to know how much a wedding magician costs, there are many things that can change the price. Timings, location, guests numbers, wedding format, type of performance are just some variables. This is why you won’t see prices on the websites of many magicians, including this one. Often when I find out more details about a wedding, I can make suggestions to help add more value and make better use of my time.

“But Jon, if I ask you “How much does a wedding magician cost?” can you give a ballpark figure?

If pressed, I would say that anything under £300 and the magician may be okay but there may be risks involved. Anything from £1000 – £400 and you should be looking at a professional magician for your wedding.

 

Is it just close-up magic for weddings?

No it isn’t. I offer a special performance that all the guests will enjoy together. Presented either before or after the wedding meal, it is a wonderful finale to the magical entertainment. Everyone will enjoy the show and the bride & groom can be central to it with magical mementos created just for them! Before the wedding meal it creates a buzz for all the guests to talk about at their tables (which often helps when they don’t really know each other) or during dessert or coffee, it doesn’t need to add any extra time to the schedule. Either way it creates an amazing atmosphere that filters through the whole party.

 

Here are important points to consider when looking to compare wedding magicians with different fees:

• How experienced are they at performing magic at weddings? Someone who needs the experience may well charge less but won’t know the best way to entertain at your wedding.
• If your wedding runs later than the agreed time will they charge you extra for staying longer?
• Are they local to the venue or do they have a long journey?
• Are they able to offer anything specially tailored for the Bride & Groom?
• Do they offer any advice about how they work with other suppliers?
• ‘Award-winning magician’ sounds great and might seem like a reason to bump up someone’s fee but are they from a local magic club, national level or even international standard?
• You want to hire a magician and everyone seems great. However, you should have a gut feeling about who is right. After all, if you like the person then so will your guests.
